FAQs

What is goguma, aka Korean sweet potato?

Goguma is the king of sweet potatoes, in our humble opinion! No other sweet potato comes close in flavor, texture, and nutrient profile. To top it off, goguma is a stunner: a vibrant reddish-purple hue on the outside (after you wash ’em off), and a golden-yellow inner flesh when roasted.

Roasted goguma tastes richer and sweeter than the orange-fleshed sweet potato you’ll find more often in the grocery store. Goguma has a dense, velvety texture and tastes pretty close to heaven by itself – no need for seasoning!

Nutritionally, goguma is rich in beta-carotene, magnesium, potassium, B vitamins, and brimming with antioxidants. Even though sweet in flavor, goguma has a low-glycemic index, which makes it a great food for diabetics.

Is it any good for my dog?

Holy cow, is it! Korean sweet potato is bursting with vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants – basically all of the stuff that’s good for us humans and our dogs, too! Especially if your dog is diabetic or on a low-calorie or gluten-free diet, goguma is a great treat option.

(Side note: Korean celebrities supposedly live by a diet of roasted goguma to keep them looking svelte and wrinkle-free. So adding some goguma-based treats to your pup’s life just might turn them into a Hallyu star … maybe??)

Will my dog like it or tolerate it?

We can’t say for certain, of course. Every dog is unique and has their own tastes. But so long as they don’t have specific ingredient allergies and love delicious-smelling treats, we’re confident their tails will wag for Gogoma Bakes!

All four dogs that have been part of our pack love Korean sweet potato. The original four-legged goguma fanatic was Lucy, a Maltese who lived to be 17 years old and was the fussiest eater you’d ever met. It was her all-time favorite snack and meal topper.

Along with Lucy, our other goguma-lovers include a Boxer, a Boxer mix, and a Pitbull-Rottie mix.

What else is in your bakes?

Goguma is the staple ingredient for all our bakes (hence our name, Gogoma Bakes)! We also grind organic whole grain oats ourselves for each bake. We chose oats because it’s healthy, low-allergenic, and tolerated by most dogs.

Each recipe is inspired by foods we love. So we put the very same ingredients we’d eat ourselves into each bake. Every ingredient must meet high standards for taste and quality. Essentially, only stuff that’s good enough to put on our own plates goes into our bakes.

Also, we never use preservatives, natural or artificial flavors, wheat, corn, or soy.

How long do these treats stay fresh?

Since we don’t use preservatives in our bakes, your pup will enjoy the most flavor from our treats before the "Best By" date clearly marked on each bag. Once a bag is opened, please treat your pup to what's inside within 2 weeks - if they last that long!

Store the bag tightly sealed in a cool, dry place and out of direct sunlight.

Tip: You can prolong the fresh flavor of Gogoma Bakes by popping them in the freezer. They just need a few minutes to thaw out at room temp but can also be enjoyed frozen, too!

How many bakes can my dog eat?

The general rule is treats should not exceed 10 percent of a dog’s daily calorie intake. Vets say you should adjust your dog's meal-time calories accordingly so he/she doesn't do over the daily limit.

We'll add here that we're generous with our own dogs when it comes to Gogoma Bakes. We feed them as snacks to power up our pre-breakfast morning walks and during long hikes. If we're on an extended daylong adventure, we like to give them a few treats to tide them over until dinnertime.

We designed each recipe with a balance of nutrients and flavor using healthy, sustainable ingredients that are gentle on sensitive tummies. You can feel good about treating your pups to Gogoma!

Where are your treats made?

Gogoma Bakes is a California-licensed pet food producer. Our lead baker, Sandee, is a certified food protection manager. We bake our treats in a licensed commercial kitchen in Los Angeles.

Can I send Gogoma Bakes as a gift?

Absolutely! During checkout, simply indicate in the notes section that you'd like to send the order as a gift, along with any personalized message to include in the shipment.

We don’t include packing slips or invoices in our packages in an effort to reduce waste. (Learn more about what we’re doing to care for our planet under "Our Story.")

How much is shipping?

Shipping is free with an order of $60 or more. Otherwise we charge a flat-rate fee of $8.25 for ground shipping in the U.S. All orders are shipped via UPS or USPS.

How long will it take to get my order?

We try very hard to ship out orders within two to three business days, but sometimes it can take up to five. We offer ground shipping through USPS and UPS, both of which can take up to five business days to deliver, depending on your location.
